Ref: : ln (Skills Resource)
Location: : york - Harrogate, Jobs4Network, Leeds, Wakefield, West Yorkshire, York
Rate: to £ 30 K (full-time (per year)) + pension, company healthcare 4.5 days per week

The job holder should be able to communicate with Company personnel and clients at all levels and therefore tact and diplomacy are essential, as is the need to uphold and respect confidentiality. Strong administrative and organisational skills are essential, as is a high level of literacy and numeracy.

This role can be demanding at times and therefore the job holder must be capable of working under pressure to frequent tight deadlines. In addition, owing to the diverse nature of the tasks expected from the job holder, a degree of flexibility is expected as well as the need to work under their own supervision and create their own timetable for the completion and delivery of their workload.

Whereas in the past the Senior Site Services Supervisor has predominantly had a joinery orientated background, the situation has increasingly changed whereby knowledge of shop fitting, metal/sheet metalwork and a range of other trades has also become important. To this effect, the job holder, wherever possible, is expected to acquire a broad range of knowledge and some expertise across the various trade skills employed.

Principally however, the Supervisor’s role is to ensure that the contract and other work delegated to him by the Commercial Team Manager is completed on time, to specification, within allowed costs and within the guidelines of all statutory regulations and British Standards of Quality. This will involve the Supervisor travelling and possibly staying away from home.

The Supervisor will need to assess the programme of work in order to advise the Site Services Manager of the labour levels essential to achieve the contract completion date and to obtain allocation of the required levels of labour resource.

The role requires specialist knowledge of site services operations and the job holder will be expected to keep abreast of all statutory regulations and Company procedures relating to this function.

The job holder will be required to visit sites under his control in order to assess cranage requirements and access for the building installation and to prepare accurate safety method statements and risk assessments. In certain circumstances, the Supervisor may have direct control of lifting operations. A knowledge of cranage and lifting techniques will therefore be essential and appropriate training will be provided where necessary. Site visits will alsobe made during the course of the contract to monitor progress, quality, specification and safety.

The Supervisor must be able to assist in the preparation of estimates and quotations for the Team for new work, extra work for contracts in progress and After Sales work and must therefore have the ability to read and accurately interpret drawings and written specifications.

The effective cost control of contracts is a key part to the success of the Team and the job holder must therefore be very cost conscious and alert to the fact that extra work not included in quotations is correctly identified and priced.

The job holder will be dealing with Company and Client employees and management at all levels and often in a high profile situation. Consequently, the ability to communicate easily and effectively is of utmost importance and especially as part of the Company’s drive to improve and foster good customer relations and maintain the correct Company image. Gaining the respect of the workforce under his control is also a key element of this.

In your role as Deputy Specialist, you will also be called upon to provide guidance and direction to other areas of the Company’s operations on those specialist subjects which fall within scope of your role and in which you have a high level of expertise. Your specialist subject(s) will be:

 CDM Safe Working on Customer Site
 Site and Building Surveys (Manufacturing)

You will be required to ensure compliance with new Standards, Regulations and Codes of Practice on your functional specialisms throughout the Company, ensuring observation of Best Practice and advising upon appropriate action to meet these requirements.

It is important that you keep abreast of any relevant developments in your specialist field and, to this end, you will be expected to undertake such updating training of yourself and to consult/seek advice from such external organisations and bodies as is necessary.

There will also be a need for you to update and train others in your specialist subject, so that required levels of knowledge and skill are properly promulgated. From time to time, your input will be needed to the recruitment process for positions within your specialism, advising upon issues of skills and competencies and their measurement.
