What it's like to work here

Longshaw is the gateway from Sheffield and North East Derbyshire into the Peak District. It was gifted to the National Trust following a public campaign to save it from development. It is an extremely busy hub with a tea room, shop, holiday cottages and car park. It is also one of our three Peak District Portfolio offices.

What you'll be doing

An inspirational leader with a passion for providing an unforgettable experience, you’ll lead a culture of exceptional service, every time for everyone. An advocate for change, you’ll guide the team to grow the commercial, visitor and volunteering opportunities effectively. You’ll be creative and strategic in your thinking and help shape great programming for our visitors including our brilliant learning facility – the Moorland Discovery Centre. Working collaboratively with the wider Peak District portfolio team (particularly the Longshaw ranger service) you’ll deliver the best from our commercial, visitor and membership operations. You’ll create a happy and productive working environment. You’ll work with external partners to ensure our offer considers the needs of the local community around us. This will include current user groups but also audiences who haven’t visited previously. You’ll consider how we can make our visitors’ time at the National Trust more relevant and meaningful for them. Using your commercial mindset, you’ll lead your team of around 20 staff and volunteers (including 4 direct reports) to increase revenue, identify new income opportunities and achieve targets and control costs. You’ll drive ongoing improvements across a set of KPIs including financial budgets, visitor enjoyment and presentation standards, staff and volunteer recommendation measures and operational risk. The stronger the performance of our commercial work the more we can put into our charitable conservation and access purpose where staff and volunteers work as one team.

The typical day is full of pace and holds exciting challenges. As part of the portfolio’s Senior Management Team you’ll support the General Manager’s delivery of all aspects of the Portfolio Business Plan.

In this role there will be a requirement to work regular weekends and Bank Holidays.

Who we're looking for

You’ll be an experienced customer facing operations manager. You’ll know how to embed a culture of exceptional service while managing and motivating a team. You need to have;
